The Requirement
To create a feeling of space and let as much natural light into the playroom as possible as it didn’t have any windows. The en-suite required a shower, WC, and basin in a very narrow space, plus a full waterproofing solution that met BS8102:2009. Insulation, soundproofing and means of escape to comply with building regulations.
The Solution
A new window installed on the gable wall to let light into the staircase with an additional internal fire rated window in the playroom wall. The entrance to the basement opened up and a glass balustrade installed to allow the light from the new window to come into the kitchen and dining room. The en-suite door moved to the middle to allow the shower and toilet to fit at either end of the room.
The Result
The transformation of the ground floor and the basement was fantastic, the customer was exceptionally pleased. The basement conversion has allowed them to continue living in a house they love in a great location and gain a more spacious and airy dining kitchen. The children have their own playroom and family can stay in a double bedroom with an en-suite.
